What is a dividend paycheck calendar?

A dividend paycheck calendar is a simple picture of when cash from your dividend stocks and ETFs tends to show up across the twelve months of the year. Instead of a single “yield” number, you see January through December — and the months that come up short.

Why months look uneven

Most large U.S. companies pay dividends four times a year, not twelve. Different tickers use different quarter patterns. In FillMonth's dataset (as of 2026-10-15), for example:

Own only tickers that share the same three-month cycle and three months of the year can look full while the other nine look empty. Mix cycles (and optional monthly payers) and the calendar fills in. FillMonth highlights the thin months automatically once you enter share counts.

Ex-dividend dates vs pay dates

FillMonth groups dividends by ex-dividend month — the public date that determines who is entitled to the dividend. Broker pay dates (when cash lands) are often a few days to a few weeks later, so a March ex-date can show up as April income in your brokerage. Treat the calendar as a planning map of entitlement months, not a bank-deposit schedule.

How FillMonth builds your calendar

  1. You add tickers and share counts (or import a CSV). Nothing is uploaded; holdings stay in your browser.
  2. For each ticker we have data for, we load its trailing 12 months of ex-dividend events from our bundled file (source: Yahoo Finance via yfinance).
  3. Monthly-tagged securities project the latest amount into every month. Quarterly and other frequencies place each past event in its ex-month.
  4. We multiply by your shares, sum across holdings, and chart January–December. Thin months are flagged when they sit well below your monthly average.
